The Dangers of Plastic in the Bottles Production

Nowadays, drinking water from plastic water bottles is very common, brands  thanks to marketing has convinced customers that it was cleaner, safer, tastier, and healthier than normal tap water. The plastic from your bottle water is made from polyethylene terephthalate. Recent researches  have shown that it let some particules in the water that are carcinogen; moreover,plastic bottles contains Bisphenol A (BPA), a molecule which is suspected of neurological and behavioral problems for fetuses and children. BPA also disturb the female hormone estrogen, which may have huge consequences on health, including cancer of the brain, breast, and prostate, on the female reproductive system and the immune system of  adults.

The recommendations to avoid those dramatic consequences are to choose a bottle with a low level of BPA and polyethylene terephtalate. For that, always check the recycling symbol on your bottle. for example, If it is a #2 HDPE (high density polyethylene), or a #4 LDPE (low density polyethylene), or a #5 PP (polypropylene), your bottle is less harmful for your health

Usually in hypermarkets, the bottles sold are usually a #1, ( and don’t forget to use it only once !! ) .

Environmental impact:

20 years ago, a study from the Container Recycling Institute has shown the inability of those plastic component to biodegrade in the nature. It takes more than 400 years to disappear if it’s thrown in the nature, and more than 1000 years in the Ocean. 80% of times ( Four of every 5 bottles) ends up in landfills and waterways if it is not recycled with a devastating effects on sea life because of toxic additives leaks, such as nasty phthalates.

What are the efficient measures that you should take since you have read this article ?

First, you should start to drink from non-plastic vessels( it taste better).

In most situations, you dont really need to drink from a plastic water container. If you’re at your office, or at home in the kitchen, or even at spinning class, glass or ceramic vessels should be much better for your health. Except if you are a cyclist or a mountain climber, there is no good reason to use plastic water bottles in your day to day life.

So, from now,instead of fretting about plastic resins and trying to keep all the numbers straight, pass right over the entire issue by using a different material.

Set aside one plastic container for the infrequent times when nothing but a lightweight, unbreakable material will do. And make that material a #2, #4, or #5 plastic. The numbers are on the bottom…
